Entry for 's Summer Event.

So... I wanted to get show entries done today xD Only have one more that has a deadline before my dissertation is due, so once that's done hopefully I will be able to actually concentrate. I find that theory unlikely though.

Maddie was a surprisingly protective mother. Nobody had really thought she would be, but it seemed once she'd foaled her attentions, instead of being devoted to creating mischief, turned to chasing the entire herd away from her filly. Stallions and colts were particulary hated - though Swift, for some bizarre reason, was acceptable - and of the mares she was only really happy with Rockstar being around.
For that reason, Marion and Charlie had decided to move the three of them, Maddie, Juno and Rockstar into Pasture 1 were they could keep a close eye on them and try their hardest to get Maddie to calm down about people approaching Juno. It was a slow process, but after a month or so people could handle Juno if Maddie was wearing a headcollar and being led herself, and after two Maddie was comfortable with people interacting with Juno without her supervision.
Even after three months, however, the big warmblood still panicked when she was removed from the presence of her precious baby, and it was giving Marion a headache.
"I wanted to take her to that halter class... we won't be able to show her at all, we can't exactly keep Juno in the ring with her."
"Maaaybe we could."
"What do you mean?"
"There's a mare and foal class. Maddie won't be being judged, it'll be Juno, but it's still more halter experience, if that's what you want. Not sure why you do, not like it's a real sport.." Charlie added in a dark mutter.
Marion gave an amused little snort at that. She well remembered how Charlie had crowed for weeks after the warmblood had beaten a halter champion to place in Florida. Not a real sport..
So it was that Maddie, Juno and Swift (for the foxhunt on the previous night to the halter) went travelling again. They'd been so worried about Maddie's overprotectiveness that they hadn't really thought that the exciting sounds, smells and sights of a show ring might provide a problem for Juno.
As soon as they arrived she began squealing and calling to every horse in sight - thankfully Maddie was now allowing other horses near her baby, so there wasn't any nasty business. When they actually got into the ring on day 2... It was all they could to do stop her running across to greet the judges as they were checking over one of the other competitors.
"Maybe we should have actually spent some time doing conformation training with Juno.." Marion trailed off in her muttering to herself as she saw the filly rear up, squeal happily, and run over to Charlie, butting him in the pocket for a treat.
Facepalm.
