Description

Again, Jemima and HttM Radiowaves at BDS CCI*** Classic. Cross country phase here :)

If you couldn't guess, I wanted to play with angles and distance here rather than colour. I wanted it to look a bit desaturated to match the weather :D

-----

"Did he say who it was?"
Jemima was positively bubbling this morning in comparison to the dour, silent version of herself that Charlie and Emily had been used to for the past week. She was still quieter than usual, but she had smiled several times during breakfast, and her forehead furrows did seem to be lessening slightly. Radio was also slightly less obsessively white today, but that may well have been because there was really no point in making him incredibly white for a cross country run in the pouring rain.
"No, just that he'd found someone. I thought you were going to call him yesterday?"
Jemima shook her head quietly and scooped a handful of grease from the tub sat in the middle of the stable area of the horsebox.
"I was too tired."
It had gone pretty much unspoken that Jemima hadn't been sleeping very well. If her increasingly odd behaviour hadn't pointed to it, then the increasing greyness of her skin, increasing dark shadows under her eyes and increasingly frequent yawns had.
"You could call him now," Charlie suggested, taking a slightly smaller handful of grease for himself and smearing it somewhat less liberally over Maddie's legs. With the rain, it probably wasn't even necessary today.
"Not enough time before warm up. Anyway, unless there's a third person it doesn't really matter that he's found me someone," she replied, trying to bury the glimmer of hope that she'd seen yesterday after the dressage. She was trying to be practical, and trying not to get her hopes up for something that may well fall through altogether, or she might not get on with whoever Aaron had found, and there was no guaruntee at all that there would be a third person anyway. It did make her come across as almost terminally pessimistic.
Charlie smiled ruefully and shook his head, wiping his greasy hands on a rag he kept solely for that purpose.
"You ought to be more cheerful, Jem. Or if not more cheerful, at least try to look less like you've smelt something bad," he said, grinning and flicking her lightly with his oil-rag.
"Hey! I've got other things to worry about too, yunno. Like riding in that," she replied, smiling as she gestured out of the open back of the box to the downpour.
"Eh, you'll be fine. At least you're not riding Maddie."
