Description

Linna has passed on - the first Oakfern is finally no more  Ending by femalefred

New reference. Not sure about the anatomy. Oh well, first time doing a fawnling in... three months xP

No horn because I'm lazy.

This is a one layer painting aside from the paint, which took three layers by itself. Derp xP Paint design is by a combination of TigressDesign (facepaint, beads in the tail), strideroo (facepaint, swirly galaxy on the bell) and leenei (sparklestars on neck and legs) - go tell them all how awesome they are!

If you're interested, here's the one layer painting without paint:  Linna Nopaint by femalefred

Name: Lineera
Nickname: Linna
Height: 9hh
Gender: Doe
Colour: Classic Cream Champagne Dun Smoky Fawn
Genetics: EE/aa/nCr/nCh/DD/ff/fwsfws
Design: #4
Previous Reference: Lineera | Doe | Shaman - OLD REF
Build: Light

Age: Born Late Spring, 742 of the New Age (27)

Bloodline: 100% Oakfern
Herd: Oakfern
Position: Shaman

Personality:
Linna, although a firm follower of Gealach and a loyal member of the Oakfern herd, is not quite what she seems. Tall and gangly, she may have been picked on as a fawn if it weren't for the fact that her mother - Sybill, a scout and fawn-taker - used to take the pale filly with her on scouting trips, and so the youngster developed a thirst for the outside world. The caves are safe and welcoming to her, but they are not home: if it were acceptable to be so among her herd she would be almost nomadic. This was in contrast to her mother, who secretly loathed leaving the caves and went only in order to serve Gealach's will. This eventually came up in conversation, when Linna was around 3 - both Sybill and Linna are calm, un-passionate does. Neither was terribly distressed, both were sad, but they parted ways fairly amicably.
As she was now exploring outside alone - as she was so rarely seen around the Moonpool previously, her absences were not thought unusual - she began to practice her newly flourishing water magic skill. She is a focussed practitioner of her magic now, drawn from many years of practice to make sure that she was safe when exploring. She has an iron will when it comes to her magic and is able to focus almost completely on the movement, control and sensing of water without distraction.
Magic is perhaps the only thing that Linna can completely focus on - she is easily distracted by changes in the light or the chattering of birds. She is difficult to converse with as, even if she is not distracted by changes in the physical world, she is often deep within her own head, trying to understand the fawnling she is speaking to but without actually speaking to them. Perhaps because of this easy distraction she is not so averse to Oathbreakers as others of her herd - or she wasn't, before the birth of her daughter. Since La'Neiya's birth Linna has returned much more to the ways of her herd, and since her experiences in Blackwood with the Oathbreaker and the Paleface, she has become almost blindly devout.
It is clear that the time above ground and her daughter's subsequent rejection has affected her deeply, however - she often has nightmares, and the thought of harm coming to her new son almost paralyses her with fear. At the sight of any young doe she is instantly captivated, hoping that it is her little love, only to be disappointed each time - La'Neiya, it seems, will not return to her.

Family:
Sybill - NPC Mother, Fawntaker and Scout, deceased
Unknown - NPC Father, Shaman
La'Neiya - Daughter, Guard
Berserkir - son

History:
Lineera was born the daughter of a fawntaker and a shaman - two relatively powerful fawnlings in the herd, but neither particularly special. Sybill had no real interest in her mate, and he no real interest in his daughter, and so Lineera never met her father. This never really caused her any pain, or sadness - there was too much of life to be interested in. Sybill would bring her daughter with her on journeys to the surface - exploring the jungles of Oakfern or raiding deep in enemy territory - and Lineera was captivated.
Sybill, like Lineera, had a love for the open sky - this, rather than any religious devotion, had been the reason for her to become a fawntaker. She and Linna would even spend time above ground during the daylight at times - almost a sacrilidge, but neither doe found any wrong in it. Despite this - or perhaps somehow because of it - Linna drew the attention of the shamans. In order to survive above ground, her mother had taught her how to use her innate magic. The burgeoning young strength of her power and the paleness of her coat - and perhaps the huge, moon-like eyes - made her a suitable choice to join the ranks of the shamans, and so from age five she trained among them, venturing out less regularly but still far more frequently than might be considered safe.
When she was formally recognised as a shaman in her own right, her dedication to Oakfern began to wane. She spent more time above ground, she spoke to fawnlings from other herds as though they were not Oathbreakers... it was only when, while exploring the rich rainforests of her home territory, she found and ate a large, sweet and sticky fruit that was probably somewhat fermented that things changed. She was visited by a 'vision' of Gealach - in reality it was more likely a drunken dream, visited upon her by her own guilty conscious. Gealach repeated the legend of her people to the Shaman, and though she did not return below ground she became more cautious, and more devout.
In her fourteenth year, for the first time she found herself feeling the call of rut. After a brief dalliance with a stag, she found herself pregnant, and almost at once she felt the call of the open sky. She left the caverns when her belly was fat and swollen, and her daughter was born in the warm forests of Silverthorne. Life above ground with a fawn was a great deal harder than alone; she and La'Neiya struggled to find food and shelter - the landscape became hostile and unpleasant.. and then came the Oathbreaker. A Blackwood stag, half her size again, bored down upon them with great fury for invading his territory and Linna told her daughter to run.
Sending her daughter away was the most painful, foolish decision that she had ever made, and the pale doe passed nearly a year in the Blackwood, shivering and miserable, pining for her daughter. It was only after she heard the whispers of a shaman - a shaman of Uir, the Blackwood's false Mother Goddess - who could guide a fawnling to speak to their god, that she found her way home. Zeytin, the palefaced shaman in question, gave her to Gealach, and Gealach called her home.
Her return, however, was far from triumphant. She erupted from the Moonpool during a sacrifice, carried there by underground rivers flushed with Spring snowmelt, and doubt was cast upon her at once. This doe was a shaman long presumed dead - how could she return? Her devotion to the God was her only saving grace - she was not welcomed, but she was accepted. Her relationship with her daughter though, had been damaged too badly. La'Neiya had been too young and Lineera too damaged for either to understand the breach, and La'Neiya refused to see her mother on her return. Wounded and desperate, the Shaman sought comfort in the only way she knew - and so she fell pregnant once more, a new child who would love her unconditionally, who would not refuse her adoration and would be by her side forever.
And so it was that two seasons later her precious song, Berserkir, was born.
