This set of pictures is for ~ShannonSuicide's show, the Bad Dream Stables CCI*** Classic. This is the vet inspection on the morning of the dressage, in one of the very brief breaks in the rain.

Charlie had a haircut

"I don't like the look of the weather," Jemima muttered, glaring out of the horselorry's window. It was the first thing she'd said since dinner last night, which had been an uncomfortably quiet affair.
Normally at these show parties, even the pre-show dinners like this one, she was vivacious, loud and a little bit drunk. Last night she hadn't touched a drop of wine and had been pushing the food around her plate without really eating. That had left conversation to be between a small quiet woman and the usually chatty Charlie.
It hadn't been a great evening.
This morning had passed mostly in silence as well. The stress of her current situation was written all over Jemima, and rather than talk about it, she had bottled it up. Charlie knew she did this - it was why she had occasional violent explosions. It was just making this a less-than-fun trip. And the threatening rainclouds were not helping.
Madddie at least was still her normal self, and wuffled happily into Charlie's newly cut hair as soon as she saw him, and then promptly grabbed the grooming bucket from his hand and dumped the contents onto the floor.
"Eh, you're probably clean enough for the trot up, anyway," he said with a grin, reaching up to give the big mare an affectionate rub on the forehead. "It's not like your plaits have come out, is it?"
Maddie whickered happily, before firmly headbutting her rider in the shoulder and slobbering on his shirt.
"Ah. Thank you," he sighed, rolling his eyes but unable to keep the smile from his face. "What have we come to, eh Madds? I get more pleasure from a conversation with a horse than with people today.."
If Maddie could reply, there's no guaruntee she would have said anything comforting. What she did instead was snort, whicker, and headbutt him again.
